“Deceased Person Discovered in Proximity to Vehicle Belonging to Suspect in Denver High School Shooting”

On Wednesday night, a dead body was found near the vehicle of a 17-year-old student who was accused of shooting two administrators at a high school in Colorado. The Park County Sheriff’s Office didn’t confirm if the body was the suspect, but lifted the warning for residents to shelter in place. The suspect was identified as Austin Lyle, and his car was found in Park County.

The shooting happened at around 9:50 a.m. at Denver’s East High School. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and by Wednesday afternoon, one victim was in surgery while the other was in stable condition at a hospital. No other injuries were reported. The identity and cause of death of the person found near the suspect’s car will be determined by the Park County Medical Examiner’s Office.

During the shooting at Denver’s East High School, paramedics were already at the scene treating a student with an allergic reaction. They quickly began treating the two injured administrators.

The suspect, Austin Lyle, was undergoing a regular morning search before he entered the school. This was part of a safety plan due to his prior behavioral issues, but he had never brought a weapon until that day. The shooting occurred in the school’s front office, away from other students and staff. Lyle fled the school after the incident.

Dr. Alex Marrero, the person in charge of a school, stated in a meeting with local officials that the school will be closed for the remainder of the week. There will be two armed officers stationed at East High School until the end of the year to enhance security. The school will consider additional measures to improve security after that. In 2020, Denver’s public school system removed its in-school police officers due to concerns about the way they treated young students of color. This incident occurred while the East High School community was still mourning the loss of Luis Garcia, a student who was shot outside the school in February while sitting in his car. He died more than two weeks later.
